Purpose

The Saddles & Smiles Program helps youth riders who demonstrate a love for learning and horsemanship but lack the financial means to participate in CoWN shows. The program provides financial support and mentorship to make showing accessible and to encourage giving back through volunteer service.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a CoWN youth member in good standing (ages ; you can define the range).

  • Must demonstrate financial need (short application + letter of need or recommendation).

  • Must show active involvement in lessons or a training program (can be verified by instructor).

  • May or may not have access to a horse; leasing support may be available.

  • Must uphold CoWN’s standards of sportsmanship, integrity, and teamwork.

Program Benefits

  • Covers entry fees and class costs for three CoWN-sanctioned shows within a single season.

  • May include assistance with horse lease fees for the show season (optional or case-based).

  • Recipients will be eligible for year-end awards upon completion of the program.

  • Each participant will be paired with a CoWN mentor or ambassador for guidance and support.

Participant Responsibilities

  • Must volunteer at least one full day at another CoWN show (before or after their supported shows).

    • Volunteer tasks may include gate work, office help, setup, awards, or youth activities.

  • Must maintain good conduct, teamwork, and care for their horse during all CoWN events.

  • Must submit a brief reflection or thank-you note after completing their supported season.

Funding & Sustainability

  • Funded through donations, raffles, sponsorships, and special fundraising events.

  • 100% of proceeds go directly to youth participation support (entries, leases, etc.).

  • Donors and sponsors may be recognized publicly (if desired).

Selection Process

  • Applications reviewed by a small committee (e.g., Youth Board Liaison + 2 board members).

  • Selection based on need, commitment, and enthusiasm for learning and horsemanship.

  • Limited number of recipients per year, depending on available funds.
