CoWN offers Several Divisions to accommodate riders of all skill levels

Division Information

Open

The Open Division is open to any professional or nonprofessional member in good standing with any horse regardless of past winnings. This division is jackpotted and has added money in lieu of prizes at most shows.

CoWN does not currently offer: Open Level 1 — The Open Level 1 division is a subdivision of the Open for individuals with less than $3,500 in lifetime earnings in an western performance discipline.

 Non-Pro

The Non Pro Division is open to any nonprofessional member with any horse regardless of past winnings. The cow work in the Non Pro division is a fence work class. You must drag in the trail course.

 Limited Non-Pro

Exhibitors who qualify as Non Pro riders may choose to show in this division because of class routine or other personal choice. There is no jackpot in this division, and prizes are awarded in the All Around. Cow Work for riders in this division is Box-Drive-Box-Drive. You must drag in the trail course.

Non-Pro Boxing

Exhibitors who qualify as Non Pro riders may choose to show in this division because of class routine or other personal choice. There will be no jackpot in this division. All SHTX classes will be offered in this division (pleasure, trail, reining, and cow work) Cow Work in this division will be boxing only.

The Non Pro Boxing Division will not be concurrent with another division. Riders cannot have earned more than $750 in FENCE WORK CLASSES/DIVISIONS at any judged classes or events. The responsibility for eligibility lies with the competitor. Non Pro riders who have more than $750 in FENCE WORK CLASS/DIVISION earnings may fall back into the Non Pro Boxing division for any reason only one time. However, they may not compete in a fence work class again in any judged class or event to remain in the Non Pro Boxing division.

 Intermediate Non-Pro

The Intermediate Division is reserved for individuals with moderate riding and showing experience who wish to learn more about showing in SHTX at a more advanced pace. There is no jackpot in this division, and prizes are awarded in the All Around. Cow Work for riders in this division is Box-Drive-Box-Drive. You must drag in the trail course.

Eligibility in the Intermediate Non Pro includes restrictions on earnings and breed association points in any western performance discipline, as well as restrictions on accomplishments within SHTX. Refer to the SHTX Rule Book for specific eligibility information.

Stallions are prohibited in this division.

 Novice

The Novice Division is reserved for individuals with limited riding and showing experience who wish to learn more about showing in SHTX at a beginner’s pace.  New  members in SHTX do not necessarily need to ride in the Novice division.  Advanced skills may be better suited for one of the other divisions. There is no jackpot in this division, and prizes are awarded in the All Around. Cow Work for riders in this division is boxing. Riders do NOT drag in the trail course, they will carry a rope or similar.

Eligibility in the Novice includes having Non Pro eligibility, as well as restrictions on earnings and breed association points in any western performance discipline, and restrictions on accomplishments within SHTX. Refer to the SHTX Rule Book for specific eligibility information. 

Stallions are prohibited in this division.

 Level 1 Novice

The Level 1 Novice Division is reserved for individuals with very limited riding and showing experience. This is truly an entry level division for those new to showing. There is no jackpot in this division, and prizes are awarded in the All Around. Cow Work for riders in this division is boxing. Riders do NOT drag in the trail course, they will carry a rope or similar.

Eligibility in the Level 1 Novice includes having Non Pro eligibility, no earnings and no breed association points, as well as restrictions on accomplishments within SHTX. Refer to the SHTX Rule Book for specific eligibility information.

Stallions are prohibited in this division.

 Youth (box, drive, box, drive)

Exhibitors in the youth division must be aged 8 through 18 as of January 1 of the current year. The Youth Division is for individuals with more riding and showing experience who wish to learn more about showing in SHTX at a more advanced pace There is no jackpot in this division, and prizes are awarded in the All Around. Cow Work for riders in this division is Box-Drive-Box-Drive. Riders do NOT drag in the trail course, they will carry a rope or similar.

Youth riders who wish to go down the fence are encouraged to enter the Non Pro division.

Stallions are prohibited in this division.

 Novice Youth Division Eligibility and Restrictions: (Box only)

Exhibitors in the youth division must be aged 8 through 18 as of January 1 of the current year. The Novice Youth Division is reserved for individuals with limited or no riding and showing experience who wish to learn more about showing in SHTX at a beginner’s pace.

Eligibility in the Novice Youth has restrictions on earnings and breed association points in any western performance discipline, and restrictions on accomplishments within SHTX. Refer to the SHTX Rule Book for specific eligibility information.

Stallions are prohibited in this division.

Open and Non-Pro Junior Horse

Horses in this division must be 5 years of age or younger as of January 1 of the current year. There is no jackpot in this division, and prizes are awarded in the All Around. Cow Work for riders in this division is Box-Drive-Box-Drive.

A junior horse may be shown by a rider from any division.
